Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the trading division of Japan’s Toyota Group, is channelling an additional Tk 141 crore (1,815 million yen) into its local unit to scale up its automotive operations in Bangladesh.
According to a stock exchange filing on October 30, the fresh capital injection into Toyota Bangladesh Ltd will bring the subsidiary's total capital to Tk 604 crore (7,770 million yen). While the disclosure did not outline specific projects for the new funds, it noted that the capital increase will elevate Toyota Bangladesh to a "specified subsidiary," as its capital base will surpass 10 percent of Toyota Tsusho’s capital.
The announcement followed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s tour of Toyota’s Motomachi plant in Nagoya a day earlier during his four-day official visit to Japan.
According to a UNB report, a delegation led by Toyota Tsusho Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani had met the prime minister in Dhaka earlier in October to share plans for setting up a Toyota vehicle manufacturing plant in the country. Operating under the vision “With Bangladesh, for Bangladesh”, the company informed the prime minister that it plans to begin building a hybrid electric vehicle manufacturing facility inside an economic zone in 2027, aiming for full-scale production by 2029.
