The body of retired Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Souri was recovered from the Turag river on Wednesday afternoon, a day after he was reported missing.

Tongi River Police outpost Inspector Firoz Uddin said they recovered the floating body from Rajabari Ghat around 4:30 pm on Wednesday after a 999 emergency call, identifying Souri via his mobile phone.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, police said.

Tahsif Souri drew attention in connection with a video purportedly showing ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country by an aircraft on August 5, 2024. He was reported to have released the video footage.

An initial River Police report said the lightly bearded Souri wore white pajamas, a black shirt, and a wristwatch, with an iPhone in his pocket. The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for a postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.
