Top narcotics trader Raja, known as Picchi Raja, escaped custody in Dhaka's Tantibazar rather than Gazipur after escorting police officers transferred him into a private car on 27 September, according to investigation reports from Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
Departmental findings revealed Sub-Inspector Prabir Kumar unlocked the van to place Raja into his sister Taslima's waiting car before concocting a false escape story during a purported toilet stop in Gazipur. Officers later recovered Tk 60,000 from van driver Nayek Kamal Hossain.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Israil Howlader said no offender would be spared regardless of their police status. Monitoring committee head Mohammad Mahiul Islam said suspended personnel repeatedly provided inaccurate, conflicting escape details.
Authorities arrested Prabir, Kamal and Taslima while suspending three constables facing departmental cases. Although eight days have passed, Raja, who faces 30 criminal cases involving drugs and illegal weapons, remains at large as detective teams continue raids across Dhaka and Gazipur.

The government declared November 7 a nationwide public holiday marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day during a cabinet meeting on Monday. The administration placed the annual observance within the Category 'Ka' list of national days.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the 23rd cabinet session at the Bangladesh Secretariat that approved the measure, according to the Cabinet Division. Officials said National Revolution and Solidarity Day will now be observed every year as a general holiday.
The government also declared October 22 a public holiday by executive order for Sharadiya Durga Puja, enabling a continuous five-day holiday for the Hindu community. The decision established official festival holidays from October 20 to October 22.
To compensate for the extra holiday, all government, autonomous and semi-autonomous offices will remain open on Saturday, October 17. The Cabinet Division said the administrative adjustment maintains operational continuity across state departments ahead of the festivities.
