The government will publish the gazette for a six-member garment minimum wage board, comprising employer, worker, government and independent representatives, once the workers' list arrives after employers' nominations, Labour Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury said on Tuesday.
Addressing the 96th Tripartite Consultative Council and 25th RMG TCC meetings at Dhaka's CIRDAP centre with Labour Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarfder, Choudhury urged clearing wages by the seventh monthly and settling disputes internally without road blockades.
Warning against embarrassing the government, he ordered law enforcement and intelligence agencies to prosecute outside instigators fuelling chaos.
Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation President Nazma Akter cited moves to form the board this month, joint drives with industrial police and local administration on Gazipur unrest and dues, and talks on pay, rent, essentials and energy.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal's Razekuzzaman Ratan welcomed the policy decision, BGMEA Vice-President Rezwan Selim sought solutions to Gazipur and Kaliakair protests, and BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem cited government commitment to wage hikes, urging workers not to damage factories.
